Birthday Mission, Will You Help?

I'm turning 29 December 13th. Today I decided what I wanted most for my birthday was to get involved in the fight to end human trafficking, especially child sex slavery. How am I going to do that? Saturday night, December 13th, I'm taking over my father's art gallery in the Pearl and throwing a birthday day bash to benefit Call and Response. I'll provide all the wine and cake a Portlander can drink and eat and I'm going to ask all my friends to fore go the gifts and right a check instead... $5… Continue

We Crave One Another

We all crave God, or Spirit, or a connection to something greater, but we don’t all find it in church or liturgy. What really inspires me about the human spirit is this need we have to connect, and this hunger we have to connect, and this force we have within us to find that connection. Its that last part, that part about finding what we seek, that really has me inspired. We all want God, and to get God we need eachother. I’m writing this post slightly wine-buzzed (isn’t it great when God can… Continue

Why the Internet Rocks

Did you know the first online website didn't appear until 1991? Now there are over 155,583,825! I love the internet. Actually, I have a love-hate relationship with it. You feel the same? There is so much crap out there, somedays its like surfing in an oil spill. But there is a lot of great stuff out there too, and I'm happy to say I think the great stuff is growing at a faster rate than the crap. (Or at least, I'm getting better at navigating cyber space). What I've learned is that the web is… Continue

My Love for Single Parents, for iHeart and for Clare

Toni Morrison once said, "If there is a book that you want to read that hasn't been written, you must write it." In this modern age, I believe the same can be said for a website. This is the sentiment that lead Clare and I to dream of iHeart. We wanted a place online that brought out the best in single parents and could be a home for people sharing a similar life experience. We all need a place for relief, for support, and for inspiration. We didn't find one out there that reflected us as sing… Continue

The post definitely goes into deeper detail into who I… Continue

A Modern Woman's Fancy for Airbrush Tanning

I consider myself a modern woman. I am a self proclaimed Modern Single Momma, in fact. I love bookstores and yoga mats, Google and You Tube, my journal and my BlackBerry, playgrounds and social networks. Being a modern woman I strive for that uncanny marriage between inner, spiritual beauty and outer, undeniable sex appeal. The British writer William Hazlitt once said, “Look up, laugh loud, talk big, keep the color in your cheek and the fire in yo… Continue

Making the Moves on Hot Single Dad

As I'm still recovering from sick-o land, I don't have enough umph to write my own blog post, so I'll share with you a fun 'how to' (we all love those!) article by David Wygant from ModernMom.com on "How to Make the Moves on That Hot Single Dad" Here are the highlights of the how-to: 1).1. Walk over and introduce yourself. Playing coy will not get you the boy. 2. Have an adult get together. Literally say this to him, "… Continue

Crib Vs Cage

I'm seriously considering transforming Lucca's crib-- which he doesn't use-- into a functional cage--which momma will make him use. Since around 14 months Lucca has been sharing the bed with me. Little man hercules was climbing out of his crib and staring up at me, togging at my down comforter crying "up! up!" We share a room and so I had two choices: 1).Listen to him beg and scream or 2). Cuddle with him. Cuddling with him seemed like the obvious choice. Wrong. 6 months of cuddling all nContinue

Dead Beat Dad Drama

I know a lot of single dad's that are the farthest thing from dead beats. So this post is DEFINITELY NOT about attacking baby daddys. Thru my experience on iHeart, I have had the chance to meet so many exceptional fathers whose story and dedication to their children would make any single parent proud.... Which makes this recent experience tonight with my own baby's daddy particularly shocking. It's been so long since I have had any interaction at all with Lucca's father that I almost believed I… Continue
