Many months ago, during a deep conversation with my
Good Man - a handsome, young widower who continues to restore my faith in men - we began talking about ’sacrifices’ and ‘choices.’ Or rather, I was rambling on about how I think women make sacrifices when they become wives and mothers – when he cut me off.
“Do you really think of the decisions you’ve made as being sacrifice…

I’m no divorce expert; there’s no law degree or special accreditation following my name. But now that I’m two years into my divorce, there’s one golden nugget of advice I’d like to pass onto those newly divorcing: Get EVERYTHING down in writing - signed, sealed and wrapped up – o…

So I’ve finally reached the point where I’m not totally embarrassed of the fact that I’ve been living in Low-Income Hell since March; that’s when my ex-husband lost his job and my child AND spousal support went up in smoke – overnight.
It’s been hard. REALLY hard. I’ve laid awake many a night stressing over how me and the kids would get by this summer. But you know what I just realized? School is just around the corner – and I DID it: I made sure my kids had a darn good summer despite everythin…

So my wife and I married when we found out we were pregnant with our gorgeous daughter Audrey. We have been married for four years and during that time, had a second child. Finn, is our little guy and he is one year old now. During an argument about a month ago she let me know that she was packing it in. I was shocked even though this had been threatened time and time again. I just never thought breaking up the family was a reasonable solution. Well I am very sad about the death of the family as…

I grew up with lactose intolerance. Before I became a parent, I didn’t mind my lactose intolerance too much. I just learned to live life without dairy, despite my occasional desires to eat a scoop of ice cream or cookies with milk. However, my worries began when I became a parent. I naturally believed that my children would grow up suffering from lactose intolerance. I made it my mission to provide the proper care for lactose intolerance that I had never received as a child. In a way, this was a…

A close male friend of mine, one whose opinion I value greatly, keeps telling me:
Gypsy (his nickname for me),
you are so afraid to fall in love. You’ve built walls to protect yourself and keep men out, but you must be careful not to become your own prisoner.
Imm…

Have harsh financial times fallen upon your family? Are you worried your kids will have to go without sports activities, day camps, trips to the zoo, etc. this summer?

What do you think of the idea of a reality show that exposes fathers who refuse to pay child support?
This is what divorced dad and author Joel Schwartzberg opined on a few days ago in his article, “
Is it Wrong to Slam Deadbeat Dads on TV?” Cause apparently Lifetime TV has announced their intention to air such a show – it’s called
Deadbeat Dads. And it has ‘dads’ rights’ activists in a tizzy.
Fathers & Families, a dad-advocacy group, says the problem is that a strong m…

When we separate – it is like an open wound. Both people need time for this wound to heal again. With time and with self empowerment – we become stronger individuals again.
We start life as individuals within the warm embrace of our family. After growing into adults we leave this warm embrace to greet the big wide world. As new individuals we continue to grow and at some stage meet our soul mate or partner to make a relationship commitment with. A union, for many, a marriage, a new warm embrace…

We hear about it all the time – this thing called “balance.” We’re told it’s something we need, something we should strive for, something we should achieve.
But you know what I’ve never understood? How it is measured. Do all balancing components, i.e. work vs. play, have to happen…

This rather blistering comment came into me today from “Random Guy.” Instead of taking it as a personal attack, I’m throwing it out there to readers. What do YOU think? Men, women - do you agree?
Please stop me if I’ve misinterpreted from these blog entries:
Your “active dating life” really consists of running a pile of guys through an email/instant messaging mill . But you have no real intention of trying to actually meet 99.9% of the men who presumably contact your online profile with…

According to my best friend Hali, I do. Disqualify men too quickly, I mean. Over cocktails this past weekend, I was filling her in on my dating life when she quickly inserted: “Ummm Delaine…WHAT dating life?”
I laughed. “What do you mean? You know I’m still active on two…

It’s a feeling under my skin - one that has gradually started pushing to the surface this past year. It tells of love, despair, mischief, and adventure. It comes from sharing, loving, losing, marrying, birthing, trying harder, bleeding, and celebrating. It’s a feeling that tells of surrendering and letting go, pushing forward, and living NOW: I am becoming “A Woman with a Past.” (read more

I think I’m going nuts; I'm being yanked and pulled in fifty different directions. I should have known today would be one of ’those days’ when at 6:30 a.m., the scream of one my boys getting hurt hurtled me out of bed.
Work deadlines loom, my nanny phoned in ill, my kids’ after-school schedule today is very busy, kripes - I have no groceries or agenda for my preschool daughter, my email is on the blitz, and somehow I have to manage, troubeshoot, and do it all alone with these two hands and a sm…

The other day was the perfect case example. I drove home from custody mediation with obviously red, puffy eyes. I walked in the backdoor and immediately went downstairs to my office - I didn’t want my preschool daughter to see my tear-stained face. But once in the saftey of…

Technically, it’s not really “Day One” yet…so since the flight arrived at 11:15pm and she didn’t get to bed until 12:50am, I’ll consider that time Day 0.5. Sound good?
She was HYPER…totally excited. Nothing much happened, but I had to take some pics (natch!):
