Nice to know they were hotter than me. :) But yeah, in my opinion, if they are only interested in looks and won't look deeper, they probably aren't worth dating.

I'm thinking this whole thing has been blown WAAAAY out of proportion. Very few people in first world countries have died, and many cases in Mexico where people did just fine were likely missed because if you don't have health insurance or a lot o...

Priorities

I spent a fantastic evening on the front step with the boys watching the sunset, blowing bubbles, and talking about Thomas the Tank Engine characters. We were hoping to see bats but no luck. Brandon finally has gotten the knack of bubble blowing, and the baby was utterly fascinated by all those pretty floaty things.

Nights like this make the money crunch from working part time totally worth it. I do love what I do and I like my job. Sometimes I get caught up in the idea that I'm somehow not liv… Continue

SCENE: Portland Nursery. Brandon is riding in a red Radio Flyer wagon, assorted plants packed around him. Mama is eying the vegetable starts, trying to pick out some lettuce. It is important to note that Brandon has major sensory issues about food and has generally assumed anything green and leafy I try to feed him is a plot to poison him.

Brandon: What's that Mama?

Mama: It's lettu....um... It's Dinosaur Food. The kind of thing dinosaurs like to eat.

Brandon: What do you do with it?

Mama: Y… Continue

Well, crap.

I've been quiet recently, not from lack of things to say but from lack of ability to talk about anything that's going on. I've been dealing with a lot of family issues that I just didn't feel comfortable talking about in a public forum. But this is now about as public as it can get, so oh well.

My sister Amanda is about as smart (in a book sense) as you can get. She has a B.A., an MBA, and a law degree, is (well, was) a very good attorney specializing in finances and taxes, and frankly has neve… Continue

Wow!

I'm sort of in shock. After over a year of refusing to admit that Brandon may have Asperger's and needs help, his Dad suddenly said he'd like more information and wanted to participate. I think I did a reasonable job of keeping my jaw off the floor. He also admitted he hadn't been visiting as much as he could in part because he didn't know what to do when he's here. He wants ideas for things to do together beyond just sitting in the playroom while Brandon plays near him. Okay then! I can work wi… Continue

Spider Cookies

I went out to dinner with some friends this evening and had a great time. As I was heading back to my car I realized I'd missed a text message from my mom. She wanted to warn me that Brandon really, really wanted to make spider cookies as soon as I got home. He was absolutely sure we had all the ingredients and it was What We Were Going To Do. Luckily, for once we do actually have everything needed, and so I got to spend a goofy hour or so with my boy, doing exactly what he wanted.

We found the… Continue

Hey MaryAnne, I just read that your birthday is Feb, 12, 1979, mine too! What a coincidence, we're exactly the same age!

You are right, people do tend to grumble at the saturn return time as if it is suppose to be bad. But, ultimately it is the time that we get to take the "bull by the horns" and start steering. This added responsibility can be quite a charge for those that are ready for it. During mine, I was relieved to be able to take authority where I always knew I had it, but was confined by the powerlessness of youth.

Yes, you've got a couple planets in earth signs, which helps ground your cluster of planets in the air sign aquarius. It has been the pattern with the charts that I have looked at from this site, though, to have either a cancer ascendant, virgo moon, or a cluster of planets in aquarius. You, my dear, have all three. AND you are going through your first saturn return. You deserve lots of hugs right now. *HUGS*

MaryAnne,
I have to say, your little boy is absolutely adorable! I'd love to meet him--and you. Thanks for asking about St. Luke's. I have to be honest and say that it does sound awfully similar to the church you're currently attending. I mean, we have an older congregation (though that is changing), and we have a small nursery with a great high school attendant. BUT, it is a hugely loving place and it's full of grandparents who love kids and their parents. It's a real family place, and it's a place where people are very accepting of differences. I personally love it. If you want to try it out for a few Sundays, we'd be so glad to see you. But I did want to warn you about the stuff above because it won't be a huge change in some ways from your current place.

As for your son's potential Aspergers, that must be hard on you both. Was the diagnosis a surprise? That's a lot to manage as a SP, I imagine. He's so lucky to have a mom who is willing to work with, and for, him so he can have good experiences at church and other places. He would not be alone at St. Luke's as a kid who is unconventional. And you would not be alone as a SP.

I was interested in the article in the Oregonian a week or so ago about the church in the midwest that asked a family with an autistic son to leave. Ouch.

There's a lot to talk about here! I'd love to have a conversation about autism, church, being a mom, etc. Let me know if you want to check out St. Luke's.

Peace,
Jennifer
