Hust as a heads up, JT - 100-101 isn't a bad fever for a kid. So get your kid to try the meds, but don't worry that much - it's probably just a sign that their body is fighting off some infection. If it hits 103 or 104... then call the doctor.
Another thing to ask about - there is a rapid test for Strep which can be run in about 10 minutes, often in the doctor's office (same day if they have to send it to a local lab). It's very accurate and you have your results a lot sooner than a 2 day traditional culture. Non-strep fevers don't usually last very long. Will he tolerate a cool bath or damp washcloth on his forehead? Good luck, I hope he feels better soon!
My boys were also tough with meds. And I went crazy when they needed to take them. Mixing in soda, ice cream - anything that would hide it... so my best for fever -
Get some non-coated generic regular strength (white pill, solid) tylenol (like advil better - but you need non-coated) and a pill crusher. Crush the pill into powder and put it in ice cream. As long as it's fine enough - there will be no problems.
It's been months since I have been on this site, but your e-mail to the Autism Group got my attention so I thought I would try to offer some suggestions. Unfortunately I have not had to deal with this in my son, but I do have a few thoughts for you. First, have you tried watering the medicine down in some strong flavored juice? A Kool-aid maybe? Gets watered down in the stomache anyway right? And then for future doses, I wonder if you could freeze the right dose in something like an ice cube tray, and make it a popsicle treat for him? It's hard when they don't understand how, or just don't want, to help you help them. Hope this helps a little.
Hi Kim... I truly think that it's important to forgive. My husband died a year and a half after our divorce and I was able to forgive him and talk to him before he left. I think that was the key to my closure. On the other hand, his parents have don…
Thank you so much for the feedback. I will definately keep it in mind. And like I said, I know I have another year to go, but I thought I'd just snoop around for now for tips and info.
