My youngest daughter is my athlete. I began long ago to teach her that trying new things was great, but once we started we saw it through to the end. I don't think this is pushing her, but teaching her lessons in commitment and follow through.
I was going to pretty much say the same thing that everyone else said. I used to teach beginner snowboard lessons and I would run into that same sort of thing. Kids would see the Xgames on TV or have the snowboard game on their xbox/sega/nintendo ...
