How could you not want to see your own child?

I just don't get it...how could a parent now want to spend time with their own child. My daughter's father is barely around. He makes plans to see her and then bails. It's so frustrating. He lied to me about working for the weekend and took of for a week in Florida. It's getting to the point where I feel like he should not see her at all.
