"I Must Be Crazy " I am a Single Parent trying to Homeschool my son.

Am I crazy? That mood changes min to min most times(LOL),but there is nothing like the feeling u get, when u have taught your child a concept or an idea. Practiced with them, nurturing their need to learn, and then POW BAM POW POW .They do it, They get it.... out of the blue (like magic).
Your patience, your time, and your belief in them culminates into a moment of understanding.( I am High On Life, for days after these moments)( It's also a healing, for myself, from old painful memories of a crappy, burnt-out public school teachers( who made it their job to make myself, and my other classmates feel stupid, if we didn't get a concept)

So with all that said : I am calling out to other single parents( who homeschool, would like to homeschool,or want to know more about it) to create a online support group(with the website owners permission here on I LUV SINGLE PARENTS). So we can support eachother( I need support, so I know there are others out there that need positive support too).

We are a very rare breed, and I myself, have had a backlash of other Parents/ Family/ Friends (look at me like Im crazy, or wistful in my thinking that I could take on the chore of educating ,properly, my child. The insults are plenty.( I ignore them and keep going on,but sometimes; on not so good days; I think "I MUST BE CRAZY"(LOL)

I love the idea of home-schooling because of the flexibility and freedom it gives you to travel....take your children around the world and have their classroom right there! =)
Of course, like you say, it is not all romantic and easy....so a support group for those who venture into the home-schooling territory would be really valuable.
I bet there is a lot of single moms and single dads who would be curious to know if its something they might be able to do....My son is only 19 months now, but I already hold the vision of home-schooling him and living in Italy and/or traveling around India with him in my mind. Tell me, can it be done!!?

My husband (well stbx) and I debated homeschooling. I was eventually overruled, but I am all for it. There are so many well organized homeschooling groups, and some of the statistics speak for themselves. The one on one (or however many you have -- which is certainly less than the average class ratio) is so beneficial. My kids went to a private school for awhile that partnered with homeschoolers for field trips and sports. And yes Morgan...the traveling!

I love this woman's blog -- it has lot's about homeschooling, and she has a gaggle of kids -- and $5 meals! Check her out: http://www.thehappyhousewife.com/category/homeschool/

I agree 100% with you. I find it really hard to forgive my son's father for everything he has ever done to him. He never apologized. I want to forgive him and when I look at him I try to act like everything's fine (for the sake of my son) but I ca...
